CHRONIC MIGRAINES

The International Headache Society defines chronic migraine as more than fifteen headache days per month over a three month period of which more than eight are migraine based. This is in the absence of medication over use. Episodic migraine is the other migraine sub-type, which is defined as less than 15 headache days per month.

The FDA approved the use of Botox for Chronic Migraines in 2010. It is also effective in the prevention of migraines.

Anti-wrinkle injections applied to the glabellar (frown lines) and forehead regions help to relax the muscles which are renowned for being involved when migraine attacks occur.

HYPERHYDROSIS (EXCESSIVE UNDERARM SWEATING)

Sweating is a natural bodily function, but for some people, excessive sweating can be as a result of medication side effects or certain other medical conditions.

A series of Botox injections can be applied to both axillae (armpit) to help reduce the amount of sweat produced by the glands.

This procedure is commonly used, however not available on the NHS.

BRUXISM (JAW PAIN FROM CLENCHING TEETH)

Approximately 1 in 10 adults clench their teeth resulting in pain near the TMJ (Temporomandibular Junction) site. You can feel this area by clenching your teeth and pressing along the jawline.

Whilst dentists can provide mouth guards, this can be uncomfortable at night and the reality is that the jaw naturally clenches on the mouth guard instead. So the pain continues.

Injections to this site relaxes the muscle and therefore reduces the pain felt. Often to achieve the best results, 2-3 treatments are needed in this area. Some experience slimming of their face due to this method.

Anti-wrinkle injections/ medications are not without their side effects which can include but are not limited to: allergic reactions, rash, itching, brow heaviness, muscle pain, nausea and dizziness. Please discuss with Dr Sarah if you have any concerns regarding treatment.
